Thomas Richard Douglas, age 83 of Nashville, passed away on April 28, 2014. Born in east Nashville, TN, on June 28, 1930, Tom was the son of the late Rachel and James Douglas. His brother, James, and sisters, Katherine and Diane preceded him in death along with his eldest son, Thomas, Jr. Tom graduated from East High and the University of Tennessee. He served honorably in the U.S. Army until 1956. Among Tom's numerous areas of community involvement are many years of volunteering with Boy Scouts, as an election poll worker, PTA officer, and as a baseball and softball coach with the Crieve Hall Youth Athletic Association. Other interests included archeology and caving. He worked for A.G.Edwards and Sons Investments, and the Internal Revenue Service. Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Graf Douglas. Tom had four children: Jane Douglas Palmer (Jon), Thomas Richard Douglas, Jr. - deceased, Carolyn Douglas Friday (Ken), and John Graf Douglas. Tom is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Kimberly, Monica, Ben, Nikki, Christopher, Daniel, Derek, Mary Ann, Brandon, Alan, Hannah, Coretta, and four great-grandchildren: Brayden, Maddie, Thomas, and Mal. Tom was a man of great integrity and a faithful servant to his family and fellow man. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at Crievewood United Methodist Church where he was a faithful member on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm.
